Ginkgo biloba 'Saratoga Broom' originates from the U.S.A. found as a Witches Broom low down on a plant of Ginkgo biloba 'Saratoga'. It is male, but the person responsible for its discovery and introduction are not known.

 

Description – the leaves are generally darker in colour and typically bilobed, but this is not as deep as would normally be found on the species. It produces a good leader and is slow to branch out (most specimens are encouraged to do so by pruning). The rate of growth is between 15 cm to 20 cm a year. In 10 years it reaches a height of about 1.2 – 1 .5 m with a spread of 1.5 - 2 m.
